All applicants must be able, willing and qualified to perform the work described in this job description and must be available for the entire period of employment specified in box 3 and 4, page 1. This work order is for qualified people perform the duties related to harvesting produce in an apple orchard, as well as the harvesting of winter squash, gourds and pumpkins. Workers must be able and willing to work in varied weather conditions including hot, humid summer days during harvest as high as 90 degrees with damp mornings. Workers must be able to handle and climb a 20 foot ladder repetitively while carrying an apple picking bucket which is harnessed over the workers shoulders. Other duties may include picking rocks to prepare soil for planting, training and pruning apple trees, as well as other farm related duties as the need arises. When harvesting apples, productivity must be at least 60 1-1/8 bushel boxes per 7 hours worked with no more than 4 percent bruising for fresh market. Workers must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds on a frequent basis. In addition, workers may be asked to drive tractor, pick up brush from orchard floor, repair broken bins, and plant and water trees. Also, it may be necessary for workers to drive trucks to remove apple bins from the outlying orchards at harvest time. Workers will operate trucks or other multi-purpose vehicles to transport workers from housing (whether on or off farm) to the farm properties; haul tools, supplies, or crops; transport workers from place to place around the farm properties during the workday (including on public roads to reach farmers fields); and, or transport workers to the grocery store, bank, or laundry facilities on an as-needed basis. Those that are requested to drive will be required to possess a valid drivers license, no worker will be rejected for not having a drivers license. Employer will furnish to workers without cost all tools and equipment required to perform duties assigned. Workers may require to work 8 hours shift between the hours of 7:00am - 7:00pm from Monday through Saturday. Worker will be given 30 minutes for lunch. Beginning and ending times will vary depending on the conditions in the orchard. Beginning and ending times may vary depending upon weather and crop conditions. Worker must be available to work Monday through Saturday and able to take directions in simple English.
