DESCRIPTION

POSITION SUMMARY:Employees would be responsible for teaching water safety in and around the water. Covers skills and knowledge in a logical progression for aquatic skill development and promotes safer and better swimmers. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • As the swim instructor you will be responsible for conducting swim lessons for groups with ages ranging from 3 years old to adults.
  • Responsible for the safety of all participants.
  • Responsible for knowing the course materials and knowing how to implement them effectively.
  • Responsible for planning, organizing class, covering all materials required, and demonstrating the skills required for completion.
  • Employees must be prepared to answer questions or know where to find the answers.
  • Required to adapt teaching to experience, ability, and culture of participants so the students can meet course objectives.
  • Responsible for monitoring participants progress and provide corrective feedback for improvement.
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate records of participants attendance and progress.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and safety of the pool area.
  • Employees are required to enter course records on the Red Cross Learning Center site.

NON-ESSENTIAL/MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:Perform miscellaneous tasks as requested by the Aquatics and Ice Manager or Aquatics Supervisor

EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Have the ability to communicate effectively with guests, employees and others of all ages and diverse backgrounds.
  • Requires experience in working with children.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Be able to learn on the job

CERTIFICATES, LICENSE, REGISTRATION:

  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) (required)
  • American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED

EQUIPMENT:Noodles, Kick boards, posters, diving sticks, floating devices, life jackets, First Aid kit, Ambu Bag, AED, resuscitation mask, AED, DVD player, posters, in water platforms

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and walk, and talk and hear.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to maintain surveillance while they teach, instruct, listen and help educate participants in the education of water safety. They will need to be able to frequently enter and exit a pool without any assistance. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, talk, kneel, stoop, and have to be in loud or hot conditions. The employee will have to use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects and reach with their hands and arms. Specific vision abilities require to do this job include the ability to adjust focus

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Must be able to work well around the public in some extreme weather conditions (very hot, cold, or rainy)
