Job Description:

About the Position

In this role you are responsible for the development and implementation of business plans, budgets, transit asset management plans, transit facilities planning, and the accountability for outcomes.

  • Oversee all functional activities for Transit Facilities.

  • Responsible for managing the development and implementation of strategic goals & objectives for the Transit Facility unit, in collaboration with the Transit Department’s strategic goals & objectives.

  • Identify and mitigate potential maintenance and safety concerns.

  • Develop short and long-range facility plans.

  • Coordinate maintenance, repairs, improvements, energy use + conservation, and any other facility-related activities with General Services Facilities team for proper allocation of work, cost, and implementation.

  • Lead transit facility improvements and enhancements.

  • Identify and provide input in security improvements in coordination with the Transit Chief Safety Officer.

  • Participate in evaluation committees.

  • Develop and coordinate projects and preventative maintenance/repairs and other tasks with pertinent Transit Department staff and other Sarasota County departments.

  • Coordinate with Transit Fleet Manager and ensure continued collaboration of maintenance functions across facilities and fleet.

  • Interface with other units/departments & city/county officials, while keeping the Transit Director informed and engaged.

  • Set and track performance measures.

  • Monitor facilities by regular site visits; create and update facility checklists; setting up and coordinating building and equipment inspections.

  • Supervise and assign work to subordinates for maintenance including transfer stations, bus stops, and transit administration facilities.

  • Provide guidance & direction to staff.

  • Manage staff including hiring & conducting performance appraisals. Partner with HR on employee relations issues; recommending & administering disciplinary actions.

  • Develop specifications and scopes of work for various vendor contracts and service providers.

  • For capital projects, this is done in coordination with the Transit Project Administrator/Manager and when appropriate, Capital Projects Department staff.

About the Schedule

Work Hours:

  • Full-Time, 40 hours per week.

  • Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

  • Must be available on-call to dispatch/assign/refer/respond to facility emergencies and urgencies related to transit facilities and assets.

About You

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and four (4) years of related experience.

  • -OR- Associates Degree and six (6) years of related experience.

  • -OR- Eight (8) years of related experience may be substituted for degree requirements, at management discretion.

  • Two (2) years, or more, of the experience must be in a supervisory capacity.

  • Valid Florida Driver's License by date of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in public administration, business management, facilities management, facilities planning, capital project management and/or transit industry.

  • Certification in a related area such as Certified Facilities Manager, Certified Public Manager, American Institute of Planners Certification (AICP), or American Public Works Association (APWA).

Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment for a period of five (5) years.

About Everything Else

Starting Pay: $74,484.80 - $84,000.00, based upon experience.
