Position Summary

The Compliance & Legal Affairs Paralegal reports to and will be supervised by the Associate General Counsel and will act as a general resource to the entire Compliance & Legal Affairs team on a wide range of initiatives. This role requires the skills needed to successfully perform paralegal, analytical and administrative tasks, including drafting or reviewing legal documents, performing legal and records research, preparing and filing legal forms, support for department and company projects, and litigation support including discovery and coordination with outside counsel.

This position offers a hybrid work schedule, based at our location in Portland, ME.

Job Description

Key Outcomes:

Successful Completion of Paralegal Tasks with Oversight and Support from Counsel

  • Drafts and reviews template contracts and agreements, conducts statutory and regulatory research and interpretation, and reviews and maintains policies and procedures;

  • Provides support to the Martin’s Point Executive Office and Chief of Staff on corporate governance issues;

  • Prepares and files legal documents with government entities, including Bureaus of Insurance and state agencies, and maintains corporate records;

  • Communicates with regulators and agencies in response to inquiries, requests for information and submission of documents;

  • Monitors potential changes in applicable laws and regulations, communicates changes to affected teams, and supports resulting implementation projects;

  • Provides support for litigation matters, including document collection and review, management of outside counsel invoices, and responses to subpoenas.

Collaboration and Partnering in Support of Compliance & Legal Affairs Team

  • Assists C&LA team on projects, investigations, examinations and audits;

  • Provides C&LA team administrative support, including but not limited to management of C&LA’s intranet resources, meeting scheduling, invoice tracking and management, and maintenance of policy and contract repositories;

  • Oversees and maintains C&LA electronic systems and tools, provides training and onboarding to new team members;

  • Serves as C&LA liaison on business projects and initiatives and change management activities;

  • Drafts and circulates meeting minutes and project documentation;

  • Develops and organizes C&LA narrative and data reporting, including but not limited to support for quarterly Board report; and

  • Performs other miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Education/Experience

  • 5 years of law firm or in-house paralegal experience in healthcare or related field

  • Experience conducting legal research and writing required

  • Experience providing litigation support (including document production) required

  • Strong project management skills required

  • Computer literacy with proficiency in using and managing database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint required

  • Experience communicating federal or state regulatory agencies preferred

  • Experience with reviewing contracts (template agreements) preferred

Required License(s) and/or Certification(s):

  • Paralegal certificate preferred

  • Project management certificate preferred
