Job Title: Utility Labor Number of Openings: 1 Job Type: permanent Days/Hours: This position requires a flexible work schedule; night and/or weekends may be required. Rate of Pay: $18.00- $25.00 DOE Location of Work: Gulf County
**Job Summary: Responsible for assembling, connecting, and constructing pipe systems for storm or HDPE, sanitation sewers, drains, and water mains. Ensures ground is prepped and trenches dug out for pipes. Aligns pipes and seals joints together. The Pipe Layer ensures that trenches are properly excavated, shored, and prepared for pipeline installation. The Pipe Layer grades and levels trench foundations, aligns and positions pipes, and checks pipe slopes using levels or lasers to ensure they conform to specifications. The Pipe Layer also ensures that trenches are bedded and backfilled properly, so pipe isn't out of round and installs pipes that are on grade and airtight as required. The Pipe Layer supports the Foreman in monitoring progress, ensuring work is completed safely, and efficiently.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Advanced knowledge of equipment, and setup, of lasers, transits, grade rods, and line levels.
Vast knowledge of differing types of soils, and shoring techniques. As well as following the OSHA rules and guidelines for trenching and sloping.
Advanced understanding of survey stakes. E.G. cuts, fills, and elevations
Lay out pipe routes using blueprints, and coordinating with Foreman
Be able to set the pipe laser up in the manhole and establish line.
Enter the proposed slope in the laser.
Understand tenths and how to read grade rod
Able to use logic, reason, and math as needed for the job
Ability to generate efficient methods quickly to resolve roadblocks
Ability to adapt to differing soil types and conditions
Configure pipe
Align pipes in pipeline
Dig trenches with trenching
Slide pipe into trenches.
Instruct operator where to move pipe in preparation for
Insert spaces in between
Pull out defective or misalignedpipe
Correct alignments withtools
Inspect places where pipes are fitted together to ensure pipes are spaced out properly and according toplans
Lay pipe for storm or sanitation sewers, drains, and waterlines
Grade trenches
Use glue or welding equipment to ensure pipes are tightly
Ensure pipes are fitted and aligned using grade rods or transit
Cover pipes with dirt or other
Drill holes into pipes for auxiliary
Perform continual maintenance on pipes and replace those need to be replaced
Utilize magnetic or radio
Adhere to corporate safety policies and procedures at alltimes
Operate equipment in a safe manner in order to minimize the risk of injury and property damage.
Must successfully pass written test on equipment and functionality and competency tests
Must be able to wear mandatory Personal Protective Equipment including at a minimum: steel toed boots (employee responsible), safety vest, hard hat, eye protection, and hearingprotection
Must be able to lift, pull and manage heavy equipment and objects up to 50pounds
