Tidelands Health Manager Accounting in Pawleys Island, South Carolina

Position Summary: The Accounting Manager is responsible for managing the accounts payable and general accounting activities and resources within the Heath System.

Specific Duties To Include:

  • Accounts Payable –

  • Maintain Supplier Accounts software, including the coordination of new release testing, training of new users, and optimization of Accounts Payable processes.

  • Oversee the virtual/procurement card (BofA, American Express, or similar) program and ensure optimized usage in accordance with the contract.

  • Ensure the accurate and timely preparation and filing of 1099s.

  • Develop and maintain GL coding standards and training to ensure the accurate processing of invoices, expense reimbursements and payment requests.

  • Manage weekly check run process to maximize vendor discounts and coordinate with Treasury & Capital Manager to maintain appropriate days cash on hand.

  • General Accounting –

  • Manage the preparation of the monthly financial statements in accordance with GAAP across departments (Procurement/Inventory, Revenue Cycle, Reimbursement, Accounting, Banking, Capital, etc.) to ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial statements.

  • Ensure the accurate preparation of monthly reconciliations through routine review to identify and resolve outstanding variances. Assist with the preparation of standard journal entries and workpaper preparation to obtain desired outcomes across the department. Prepare and post journal entries as needed.

  • Accumulate from team members and prepare overall monthly financial statement variance analysis to review with VP of Finance & Business / Corporate Controller and communicate to other members of Senior and Executive Leadership.

  • Manage and ensure maintenance of general ledger structure, build and overall tenant in Workday. Ensure consistency with EMR (Epic). Oversee general ledger updates and ensure testing as necessary.

  • Oversee and manage financial statement audits – interim, year-end, single audit, etc. Effectively communicate issues and potential concerns to the VP of Finance & Business Analytics / Corporate Controller in a timely manner to mitigate the risk of audit findings.

  • Oversee and manage the accurate and timely preparation of all annual tax returns (990, partnership, etc.). Coordinate presentation with appropriate levels of management to ensure timely filing. Proactively work with third party vendors to plan, prepare, and execute.

  • Develop and implement accounting procedures and internal controls by analyzing procedures, identifying weakness, and proposing solutions. Work with organization departments to ensure accurate general ledger recording and compliance with GAAP.

  • Provide periodic financial information as requested.

  • Assist with preparation of annual operating plan or continuous forecast. Engage team members as appropriate and coordinate with the Manager of Budget & Decision Support.

  • Manage completion of census requests to ensure accurate and timely reporting.

  • Develop and supervise staff accountants.

  • Educate department managers and organizational leaders on general ledger structure and appropriate expense classification.

  • Update and maintain job knowledge through educational opportunities, development of professional networks and participation in professional organizations.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations and conduct business in an ethical and professional manner.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Baccalaureate degree in accounting or finance or a degree in business or health services administration with strong accounting/finance course work, required.

Experience:

  • Minimum of six years progressive experience in accounting or related field with management-related duties and responsibilities in accounts payable and general accounting.

  • Healthcare accounting experience, preferred.

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Substantial analytical skills and the ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms are required.

  • Must possess the ability to manage complex projects requiring judgement to identify and analyze problems.

  • Must possess the ability to perform all duties independently.

  • Must be able to prioritize work and meet all deadlines.

  • Must be able to coordinate and direct the work of other staff on a collaborative basis without direct supervisory authority.

  • Extensive use of personal computer applications is required, as well as use of copier, fax and other standard office equipment.

  • Ability to function in a fast-paced environment with high level of accuracy.

  • A thorough knowledge of hospital and preferably Health System financial activities, preferred.

  • Previous experience with Workday and EPIC, preferred.
