Zurich North America is looking for a VP, Product Officer join our Financial Lines Management Liability Insurance Underwriting Team which handles all publicly traded and private companies domiciled in the United States. This role will work in a product officer capacity to support our Management Liability Underwriting Team, with a specialization in public company Directors & Officers, Employment Practices, and Fiduciary Liability, and Commercial Crime Insurance (ML-Public). This role is intended to aid in delivering customer centric solutions and effective underwriting strategies for our ML-Public team by overseeing and driving product development, product/coverage innovation and deliver competitive policy forms and coverage extensions, and will also develop underwriting insights and recommended underwriting processes that enable renewal retention, new business growth and profitability.

We are looking for a thought leader-someone with extensive experience in the technical aspects of public company Management Liability lines who is strategic with strong underwriting and/or claims and portfolio management experience.

Additional responsibilities for the Product Officer include:

  • Collaborating with our Financial Lines leadership, specifically the ML-Public team, to ensure profitable growth strategies are executable and that the strategies and metrics support profitable growth

  • Assisting with and supporting leadership in establishing underwriting strategy

  • Working with market basket heads to determine and prepare business cases and product value propositions

  • Ensuring the delivery of competitive policy forms for Financial Lines and coverage extensions that enable renewal retention, new business growth and profitability

  • Partnering with other areas of the organization, i.e. claims, in order to have a deep understanding of the claim history within these products for Zurich and the industry to understand the loss drivers by coverage to be able to address it with language enhancements while working with underwriting on their due diligence process

  • Monitoring frequency, severity and pricing, working with other Product Officers, underwriting and actuary to understand trends, impact and portfolio performance

  • Ensuring underwriting guidelines are current while working with underwriting leadership to ensure underwriting guidelines reflect underwriting strategy and appetite, maintaining consistency across Financial Lines where appropriate

  • Working with the ML-Public Underwriting Team and other internal constituents to maintain an efficient inventory within the endorsement library. Monitoring manuscript usage to ensure endorsements are filed as appropriate

  • Leveraging Data & Analytics, IT, Technical UW Product Management/Emerging Solutions, and now A.I. to identify data or tools that can be incorporated into the underwriting process to improve ease of use, efficiency and UW decision making

  • Identifying service provider opportunities (pre or post claim) that are value additive and/or a marketing benefit

  • Evaluating and communicating key underwriting/marketplace issues to the ML-Public Underwriting Team, and Financial Lines leadership

  • Establishing a cadence with our key trading partners to discuss our products, innovation and profitability within certain areas of coverage

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree and 10 or more years of combined experience in the Underwriting, Claims and/or Legal areaOR

  • Juris Doctorate and 10 or more years of combined experience in the Underwriting, Claims and/or Legal areaAND

  • Experience with Management Liability public company product lines – D&O, EPL, Fiduciary and Crime

  • Portfolio management experience or experience in monitoring legal and claims trends that impact Management Liability public company products

  • Knowledge of product underwriting and working across business units’ like actuarial and claims

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with Management Liability public company Commercial Insurance product lines

  • Strong relationship building, influencing and organizational skills

  • Strong portfolio management skills

  • Legal and/or claims experience

  • Experience working with actuaries, interpreting actuarial results including loss triangles and actual vs expected loss reserving information, etc.

  • Strong Product Underwriting experience

  • Experience building and implementing our key strategies

  • Excellent team building, influencing and organizational skills

  • Strong presentation skills

  • Strong executive presence and the ability to interact with the C-Suite

  • Ability to manage vision and purpose, lead the organization through innovative and creative thinking

Compensation for roles at Zurich varies depending on a wide array of factors including but not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set, and level of experience. As required by local law, Zurich provides in good faith a reasonable range of compensation for roles. Candidates with salary expectations outside of the range are encouraged to apply, and will be considered based on experience, skill, and education. The salary provided is a nationwide market range and has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location where the position may be filled. The starting salary range for this position is $168,400.00 - $275,800.00.
