Job Description

U.S. Bank Human Resources seeks candidates to help manage its Compensation Risk Management program. This position will focus on the maintenance of identifying material risk takers (“covered employees”) and managing the assessment of these employees in line with regulatory guidance on sound incentive compensation policies. The position will work with other human resources personnel, business line chief risk officers and other senior management on covered employee designations, their status, assessment administration and results reporting. Strong candidates will demonstrate a self-driven, independent, approach to their work and the ability to translate an end vision/goal as directed by management into practical solutions within specified timeframes. The position reports directly to the manager of Compensation Risk. Candidates will have a bachelor’s degree and at least 5 – 8 years of related professional experience.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience

  • Typically more than six years of applicable experience

The candidate must:

  • Read and understand regulatory requirements and guidance (in particular related to Compensation Risk).

  • Be able to conceptualize practical solutions that meet regulatory guidance/requirements and translate regulatory requirements into actionable business processes/procedures.

  • Design/define, document, implement, and maintain the organization’s covered employee framework, methodology, and procedures.

  • Interact with and provide guidance to the HR risk & compliance analyst to ensure that covered employee methodology is technically implemented in the covered employee database.

  • Develop positive working relationships with senior management (e.g., vice chairs and their management teams) to administer covered employee identification and assessment, persuading senior management on the value and benefit to the Incentive Compensation Risk program. Provide guidance to senior management (e.g., vice chairs and their management teams) on how covered employees are defined/identified and treatment of covered employees within the program.

  • Facilitate quarterly KI process that identifies responsible parties of key risk indicators. Provide in-depth analysis of quarterly results.

  • Work with Finance, Credit Risk Management, Corporate Audit Services, Regulatory Reporting, Human Resources Advisory Services and other subject matter experts to maintain and further develop risk reporting used to inform the risk assessment process.

  • Define, implement, and manage communication processes to support the Compensation Risk Program, specifically the risk assessment process.

  • Support elements of the regulatory and audit examination cycle for inquiries to the program by compiling and communicating information as appropriate.

  • Define key risk indicators (KRIs) for covered positions to enable further sharpen identification of potential risk taking by covered employees.

  • Design, develop and produce Managing Committee Member, Incentive Risk Committee, and Compensation Committee of the USB Board of Directors reporting and presentations.

  • Support other risk management initiatives within the Compensation Risk Management Program.

Experience Requirements include:

  • Highly proficient knowledge and proven experience with risk management topics and concepts, such as (but not limited to):

  • Materiality thresholds

  • Risk appetite identification/development/implementation

  • Risk assessments design/development/implementation

  • Inherent / residual risk quantification

  • Risk identification and quantification

  • Risk mitigation design/development/implementation

  • Expert ability to clearly communicate risk concepts to all levels and areas of the organization.

  • Expert ability to read and understand regulatory requirements and guidance (in particular related to Compensation Risk).

  • Expert ability to translate regulatory requirements into actionable business processes/procedures.

  • Expert ability to develop positive working relationships with senior management (e.g., vice chairs and their management teams).

  • Expert ability in negotiation and persuasion skills.

  • Ability to work independently on complex subjects, manage multiple tasks and set priorities in a fast paced environment.

  • Problem solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Excellent analytical, project management, problem resolution and customer service skills.

  • Strong interpersonal, logical reasoning, written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proficient with other Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint, Project, etc.).

  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Excel.

  • Experience with project management.

  • Experience with Workday system.

  • Experience with SharePoint.

  • System reporting and analysis skills required.

This role offers a hybrid/flexible schedule, which means there's an in-office expectation of 3 or more days per week and the flexibility to work outside the office location for the other days.

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $102,340.00 - $120,400.00 - $132,440.00
