Job Summary

The School of Coastal Resilience at the Gulf Park campus of the University of Southern Mississippi invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track Instructor or Assistant Teaching Professor of Criminal Justice to begin in the 2024-2025 academic year. The successful candidate will be expected to teach 12 credit hours per semester, to include introductory and upper-level undergraduate courses in support of the Criminal Justice major and minor. Applicants who can also teach environmental justice in support of the school's Sustainability Studies major are especially welcome.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach introductory and upper-level undergraduate university courses in criminal justice

  • Prepare and submit syllabi, grades, and other required course documentation in a timely manner

  • Advise and mentor criminal justice undergraduate students

  • Service and recruitment activities commensurate with university, college, and school expectations

  • Teach online classes as needed

  • Perform other duties as assigned .

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must hold a master’s degree in criminal justice (for an appointment at the rank of Instructor), or a doctoral degree in criminal justice (for appointment at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor), or a degree in a closely related field with at least 18 graduate credit hours in criminal justice. Ability to teach effectively in both face-to-face and online modalities is required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of and the ability to teach university courses in criminal justice are required.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are also required.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience as instructor of record for courses at the university level is preferred. Professional experience in criminal justice, public safety or related field is welcome. Experience with the integration of technology, like Canvas, in the classroom is also preferred.
