POSITION TITLE: Carpenter II
REPORTS TO: Foreman and/or Superintendent
PREPARATION DATE: September 2022
General Description: The Carpenter II, under the supervision of the Master Carpenter, Superintendent and or Project Manager, is responsible for a variety of projects they participate in the construction of commercial buildings or other structures.
Essential Job Functions:
A Carpenter II typically has a wide range of responsibilities, which can include:
Installing framing, both wood, metal, and stud framing.
Installing floors, including leveling and securing them to joists during installation.
Referring to blueprints or plans provided by the Master Carpenter or Supervisor.
Installing molding, cabinets, countertops, flooring, windows, doors, and other components in new buildings or remodeling projects.
Repairing damage to structures caused by fire, wind, rain, or other natural phenomena.
Maintaining tools and machinery used in construction projects to ensure that they are always working properly.
Proficient in preparing material and reading blueprints.
Able to work with limited direction.
Ability to install H.M. Door frames.
Ability to install door hardware.
Set up and take down of poly containment and drop sheets to accommodate work.
Proficient in carpentry skills, including cutting and installing wood framing, trim, baseboard, casing, doors, frames, and sheathing.
Basic milling of wood trim.
Knowledge of building envelope.
Basic understanding of negative air set up and maintenance
Secure Exterior building materials roofing and siding when required.
Build, erect and secure temporary or permanent partitions using a variety of building materials.
Will always practice good housekeeping to ensure a safe an un-cluttered worksite.
Work under time constraints to meet specific timelines.
Participates in and demonstrates an understanding of safety principles and practices; follows all safety rules to support a safe working environment, including safe operation of machines and equipment.
Accurately record and report work hours to supervisor or office in a timely manner.
Maintain a clean work site at all times.
Skills and Knowledge
Minimum 5-8 years experience in commercial, institutional, industrial, or residential construction.
Must have competent roofing skills
Basic knowledge of thermal and moisture (division 7).
Proficiency with wood and steel frame construction and finish work
Own hand tools
Work with hand and power tools effectively and safely
Ability to problem solve and troubleshoot
Adhere to strict safety guidelines
Work with limited supervision
Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
Ability to travel within the State of Maine
Willing to be vaccinated to work at Health Care Facilities
The ability to read and interpret blueprints and apply knowledge of construction mathematics to solve problems.
Must posses outstanding communication skills to interact with clients, other employees, and sub-contractors.
Need to have excellent attention to detail to ensure that the finished product meets the clients expectations.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands:
Standing 7 or more hours/day
Walking 7 or more hours/day
Lifting 25-50 lbs. w/ good body mechanics
Twisting Moderate: 121-480 twists/day
Bending Frequent: 481- or greater bends/day
Squatting/Kneeling 3-7 hours/day
Endurance Heavy Energy (7-9 mets)
Wrist Position Extensive Deviation
Pinch Position Frequent: 481- or greater pinches/day
Hand/Wrist Rep Frequent 2881 or more (more than 6 per minute)
Manual Dexterity Gross dexterity w/ infrequent fine motor skills
Vision 20/40 required w/color discrimination/depth perception.
Working with arms abov shoulder height required occasionally 3-6 hour/day.
Occasional requirement for use of Hepa Respirator.
