Jacobs is looking for a Resident Engineer to join our Civil Team in Malaysia. The successful individual will work as a member of the project team and be based at Kota Tinggi, Johor. The Resident Engineer will use their leadership and communication skills to develop a trusted relationship with the project team, contractor and with the Client’s team. Your responsibility will be to effectively communicate with all members of the project team and work to mitigate or eliminate project risks. You’ll be expected to place an emphasis on safe construction practices (Beyond Zero) and on maintaining a high quality of construction. You must lead by example and oversee safe practices on site. This person will be reporting to The Project Manager.

Additionally in this role, you will have a good understanding of the construction industry and this position entails all typical duties of a resident engineer with an inspection/office engineering staff with a proven record of supervising a construction inspection staff.

Ideally you will;

  • Actively participate in meetings and working sessions to help resolve technical issues as they arise.

  • Work closely with the project management team to ensure successful delivery

  • Lead a team in monitoring the progress of construction against the program and advising steps to ensure the program is achieved.

  • Perform inspections and quality checks of installed assets to ensure work is carried out in compliance to industrial practices / regulations;

  • Manage and direct a team of site inspectors and support staff for the supervision of the project.

  • Ensure regular inspections are being performed by the team and documented as per client requirements.

  • Report any non-conformance issues promptly and ensure corrective actions are taken.

  • Report on progress, safety, financial recommendations, quality control and changes in contract work.

  • Monitor progress of the project against the agreed schedule and coordinate work with designers, and other stakeholders as needed.

  • Work to build a cooperative partnership between client, contractors, and all stakeholders to ensure timely resolution of project issues and the overall success of the project and work closely with the project management team to ensure successful delivery.

Basically the Resident Engineer, will need to have the ability to manage all technical engineering (Civil/Geotech/Landfill/Mechanical/Electrical/ I&C) construction projects, lead construction project teams (Site Inspectors, Safety & Health Officer (SHO), etc.); to ensure that the design documentation is safely and accurately implemented on site, and that the requirements of the construction contract are followed.

Here’s what you’ll need :

  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Civil or other Engineering discipline

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or other professional qualification is nice to have however not mandatory

  • Certification from Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) for construction supervision works

  • Significant Number of years of construction management experience on large and complex civil/infrastructure projects preferably in water treatment or landfill works

  • Strong working knowledge of contract management, document controls, project delivery methods, team building and client relationship 

  • Planning, organizing, and supervision of engineering and construction inspection activities

  • Extensive experience in the design and construction engineering of earthwork, slope cutting, ground improvement work and Reinforced Soil Slope (RSS) wall.
