Job Description

This position evaluates applicant/participant nutritional and medical information to determine Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program eligibility. Obtains anthropometrics and hemoglobin; provide nutrition assessments, assign risk factors and provide appropriate nutrition and breastfeeding education to all participants according to the state WIC program policies and procedures. Provides participant-centered counseling to all participants. Recommends appropriate supplemental foods, exempt formulas and WIC eligible nutritionals in accordance with policies and procedures. Respects each participant by keeping information strictly confidential. Keeps accurate records of all contacts made with participants using the State’s database.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree with a major in dietetics, home economics or food and nutrition.

• Must have fifteen credit hours of foods and nutrition, a diet therapy and community nutrition course.

• Verbal communication skills required to interview participants and discuss nutritional information.

• Computer skills necessary (i.e. word processing and data entry).

• Written communication skills required to prepare reports and educational materials.

• Good interpersonal skills to communicate with patients, families, etc.

• Ability to drive to corporate and community facilities.

Preferred

• Ability to speak to small and large groups of individuals

• Bilingual competency preferred

• 2 years relevant experience

This position will be expected to travel to all clinic locations and be available on an as needed basis as well as some pre-scheduled days.
