BCRTA WORK+ PROGRAM

The BCRTA Work+ Program was created to enable committed part-time employees to balance work with the pursuit of an undergraduate college degree. Under the BCRTA Work+ Program, Butler County Regional Transit Authority (BCRTA) agrees to pay for eligible part-time employees’ Qualified Educational Expenses. Participants must be vetted through Miami University Regionals and BCRTA to be eligible to be employed under this agreement. Qualified employees are employed on a part-time basis for at least 20 hours per week and enrolled in at least 12 credit hours at the start of a semester. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Safely operates vehicles, tests and inspects equipment in accordance with pre-trip vehicle inspection procedures.

  2. Requests appropriate service and maintenance on BCRTA vehicles when necessary.

  3. Safely boards and disembarks passengers providing physical assistance when necessary.

  4. Collects passenger fares and follows all fare handling procedures.

  5. Follows established procedures for handling violent and disruptive incidents, passenger illness and other emergency situations.

  6. Maintains proper radio communication with dispatch center, in accordance with BCRTA policy and procedures, and responds to all instructions and related requests on a timely basis.

  7. Studies and is familiar with geography of the BCRTA service area. Follows manifests as written and brings scheduling concerns to attention of dispatch and management.

  8. Properly maintains vehicle during service: Cleans vehicle at end of shift according to BCRTA policy and procedures, removes ice and slush from vehicles steps and ramps, properly manages vehicle HVAC and lighting, keeps all vehicle entrances, exits, and interior surfaces clear of refuse, etc.

  9. Inspects bulletin board and checks mailbox each day.

  10. Fills out all forms as required.

  11. Reports all accidents immediately and submits a written report within twenty-four hours. Attends court proceedings when necessary.

  12. Checks at outer door of pick-up locations before reporting clients as “no-show.”

  13. Attends training events and meetings as assigned.

  14. Fuels vehicles in accordance with BCRTA policy.

  15. Acts as a BCRTA ambassador, projects a positive attitude, and promotes superior customer service.

  16. Follows all BCRTA procedures and policies.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    Physical & Visual Activities:

    Physically and mentally qualified to safely operate transit vehicles and perform all related essential job functions. (Subject to applicable legal requirements, must meet the physical qualification standards specified in the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.)

    Physical Abilities include:

  17. Floor Lift a minimum of 30 lbs.

  18. Knee lift strength of at least 30 lbs.

  19. Waist lift strength of at least 50 lbs.

  20. Chest lift strength of at least 20 lbs.

  21. Overhead lift strength of at least 20 lbs.

  22. Horizontal push/pull strength of at least 80 lbs.

  23. Medium agility/dynamic balance

  24. Low finger dexterity

  25. Low manual dexterity

  26. Continuous ability to stay seated.

  27. Continuous ability to twist and turn head.

  28. Frequently able to bend over/stoop.

  29. Frequently able to climb steps.

  30. Kneel or squat.

  31. Reach overhead

     

    ENVIRONMENTAL/ATMOSPHERIC CONDITIONS:

    Occasional exposure to exhaust fumes.

     

    JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

    Skills and Abilities:

  32. Knowledge of the operation of vehicles

  33. Ability to read and interpret maps, documents, and instruments.

  34. Extensive knowledge of traffic rules and regulations

  35. Ability to follow oral and written direction.

  36. Attention to detail, ability to memorize and retain.

  37. Some mechanical aptitude

  38. Mentally alert, physically capable of boarding and disembarking wheelchair passengers.

  39. Fluently read, write, and speak English.

  40. Show understanding and aptitude working with disabled persons.

  41. Work calmly and clearly under stress.

  42. Perform as a team player.

     

    Experience:

    · Two years commercial vehicle operation preferred but not required.

    Education:

    A first semester matriculated college student or is a continuing student in good academic standing.

    Accepted to the Miami University Regionals (MUR) undergraduate degree seeking program.

    Enrolled in at least 12 credit hours at the start of each semester.

    LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

    · CDL preferred but not required.

    · Clean motor vehicle record

    · Valid Ohio driver’s license

     

    You’ll be responsible for:

  • Safely operating a vehicle without distractions

  • Taking amazing care of our passengers

  • Working without a supervisor over your shoulder

  • Following directions and enforcing rules

  • Navigating around Butler County with the help of GPS

    You Must:

  • Learn to work with technology, like tablets and apps. Do not worry! We will teach you, just be willing to learn!

  • Be on time

  • Pass a DOT drug screen and physical

  • Pass a state and national background check

  • Have a clean driving record (less than 4 points)

    BCRTA is a political subdivision of the State of Ohio organized as a Regional Transit Authority under Ohio code. BCRTA acts as the designated recipient for Federal Transit Funds and provides public transportation services within and around Butler County, Ohio including Hamilton, Middletown, Fairfield, West Chester, Oxford, and Miami University. The BCRTA employs or directs around 120 transit employees and manages an annual budget over $7M. BCRTA is governed by a nine-member Board of Trustees.
