Responsibilities of Position

The Mechanic position is integral to ensuring the Citys work gets done. They diagnose, repair, and maintain a wide spectrum of automotive vehicles and light duty equipment that are used by the Fire, Police, Public Works, and other City departments. Their work involves planned maintenance as well as diagnosis and repair of unexpected vehicle and equipment malfunctions of engines, electrical and hydraulic systems, brakes, rear ends, and more. While they may occasionally work on heavy duty vehicles, the majority of the work is focused on light vehicles and equipment such as passenger vehicles, pickup trucks, police squad cars, sport utility vehicles, and commercial landscaping equipment. Mechanics interact with internal customers and external vendors, keep paper and electronic work records, and maintain a clean work/garage area. Mechanics participate in City snow and ice and other emergency response operations and call-outs that may require working up to 16-hour shifts at all hours with little or no advance notice.

The starting salary is \$31.53 per hour plus an excellent fringe benefits package. Applications must be submitted online no later than Sunday, May 19, 2024.
