Directs Audit ProjectsDirects team members involved in conducting audit projects. Provides day-to-day guidance and direction to staff on appropriate steps to take to complete projects by reviewing and discussing the work plans for individual audits/reviews to ensure that appropriate steps are taken to meet the project objectives; as work progresses, reassess the plans as needed and suggest or provide alternative steps. Provides guidance on how to analyze or interpret information/evidence to draw conclusions. Determines when follow-up is appropriate. Reviews documentation of work (workpapers) and written reports to ensure that appropriate and sufficient information/data/evidence have been gathered to achieve the project objectives, the evidence supports the conclusions reached and sound analysis and logical reasoning have been used, professional and office standards have been met, and any recommendations are not only appropriate to resolve any problems discovered, but also are practicable, cost efficient, and in keeping with the universitys management philosophy and goals. In addition, reviews reports to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and appropriateness of information conveyed to management.Leads and Conducts Audit ProjectsConducts the most highly complex and/or sensitive audits. This type of work requires extensive professional experience and analytical skills not available from the staff. These projects may involve confidential or controversial matters that must be handled with sensitivity, discretion, and tact or projects that impact senior-level management and operations in such a way as to require extensive negotiation and problem-solving skills.Provides Consulting and Advice to ManagementProvides information and recommendations to management. Communicates with key stakeholders regarding contemporary audit issues. Occasionally receives ad hoc requests to provide information and advice to various levels of university management on policies and procedures related to audits or investigations or as a subject matter expert.Contributes to the Quality Assurance and Improvement ProgramAs a member of the leadership team, reviews and approves the work of other auditors to provide ongoing monitoring of the performance of the internal audit activity. Along with other members of the leadership team, develops new policies and procedures for conducting audit work so as to improve the overall performance of the audit team and provides leadership for assessing the performance of the audit function as a whole.Directs the Audit FunctionOversees administrative activities and provides leadership by performing highly varied duties involving the use of independent judgment and professional skills. 1.) Plans and implements strategy for the Office of Internal Audits: As a member of the leadership team, this position contributes to departmental strategic planning, goal development, and goal achievement. 2.) Contributes to annual risk assessment activities, participates in the development of the annual audit plan, and provides input on risks impacting the universitys goals. 3.) Using independent professional judgment, prioritizes the projects to be conducted to accomplish the annual audit plan allowing time for investigations or other requests from management. 4.) Manages personnel matters: Responsible for recruiting, retaining, hiring, supervising, and handling of personnel issues for the supervised audit staff or other auditors, as assigned. Provides leadership for staff members and helps maintain a professional audit staff with sufficient knowledge, skills, experience, and professional certifications. 6.) Provides employee development/conducts performance appraisals: Provides training to staff in audit techniques and procedures; university operations, policies, and procedures; and office policies and procedures. Conducts annual performance appraisals, citing accomplishments and identifying opportunities for improvement and professional deve opment. 7.) Monitors work progress to ensure timely completion of projects: Establishes priorities of projects and tasks to meet the offices goals and annual plan and monitor the staffs progress, providing assistance or adjusting the scope of the project as necessary.
