About our opportunity:
The City of Asheville is seeking recent university graduates for a full-time, one-year position as a Transit Apprentice in the Transportation Department, Transit Division. The Transit Division is responsible for managing and improving public transportation services in Asheville. As a Transit Apprentice, you will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience in transit planning and operations while contributing to the enhancement of Asheville's transportation network.
What you’ll be doing:
Participating in data analytics and maintenance.
Conducting transit service surveys.
Collecting and analyzing service data, including ridership, revenue, hours, and miles.
Preparing outreach materials for the Transit Committee and community engagement meetings.
Completing independent research or special projects.
Assisting with various projects such as bus stop improvement, route and schedule updates, fare policy analysis, and market research studies.

37.5 hour work week

About you:
We know your time is valuable. Applicants who meet the following minimum requirements or have comparable experience and/or education will be considered:
Bachelor’s degree required.
Interest in public service, transportation, and/or transit planning
Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all City or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.
Other things to know:
Work Schedule: Generally works 7.5 hours Monday through Friday, starting between 8:30 a.m. and ending around 5:00 p.m. Occasional additional hours may be required for public outreach meetings.
