The Histologist I/II processes, embeds and stains tissue specimens in preparation for histopathological examination. This position requires the exercise of sound judgement and responsibility and works under the direct technical supervision of a senior histologist or technical specialist. This individual is responsible for keeping the surrounding area clean and organized.

• Demonstrate basic keyboarding skills and knowledge of the laboratory computer system (LIS) to perform inquiries and specimen accessioning.

• Contribute to the teamwork of the department by being helpful to co-workers and avoiding unnecessary conflict.

• Demonstrate knowledge of the proper procedures for preparing routine specimens for histological examination. Successively operate the dictating equipment.

• Cut routine specimens and some special processed tissues according to SOP and perform simple maintenance on the microtome.

• Listens well, takes direction and engages in interactive dialogues with others.
